Nancy Goroff (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent New York's 1st Congressional District. She lost in the Democratic primary on June 25, 2024.

Biography

Goroff graduated from Harvard University with a degree in chemistry in 1990 and earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1994. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan, Goroff moved to Stony Brook, New York, in 1997 to join the faculty of Stony Brook University. There, she has served as associate provost, interim dean of the graduate school, and, prior to taking a leave of absence to run for Congress in 2020, as chairwoman of the chemistry department. Her work at the university has included research into materials used for solar energy and management of a student entrepreneurship program.[1][2]
