|My name is Pamela Swartz and I am a California native and small business owner. I want government to work for everyone-especially you. The North State deserves better representation in Sacramento, and that's why I'm running for State Senate. It's time for a fresh voice advocating for District 1.
I attended middle and high school in Redding, and went on to get a Bachelor's of Science in Forestry with an emphasis in Wildlife Management from UC Berkeley. I have a small business as a farrier specializing in barefoot horse trimming, as well as a skin care business oriented towards helping people with severe acne.
I care deeply about the people of the North State, and will represent YOU, and the environment we depend on for our livelihoods, not corporate interests bought with PAC campaign donations.
- I will represent my consituents in the North State, not corporations.
- I believe in decisions based on science, data, and compassion for humanity.
- I believe that our economic interests are one and the same as the interests of our natural environment, which we all depend on for our livelihoods and quality of life.
A government that works for everyone means:
- Providing single payer healthcare to all Californians
- Increasing the number of healthcare facilities in our District
- Supporting programs to reduce fire danger and improve public safety and awareness
- Assisting our farming and tourism economies as they implement new strategies to adapt to the changing climate
- Providing affordable housing; no one should be homeless
- Fully funding education to include free college, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, invest in teachers and schools
- Building crucial infrastructure projects including Internet access and improve dangerous rural roads and highways
I am 100% genuine and 100% transparent. We need more of this in politics. Too often, finding out what an elected official really thinks is a game in a hall of mirrors. I have absolutely nothing to hide, and will answer any question you ask me head-on, without evasion or changing the subject.
I will always act ethically, and put people before corporate profits. I will listen to my constituents and prioritize their concerns. Many of our "representatives" appear to forget who they actually represent: the voters.
I will look for bold, forward-thinking solutions-not band-aids. It's clear to me that being boxed in by the same old systems is not solving the problems we face, and we need to think outside the box.
Anyone who holds office has to understand the process by which beneficial laws are conceived and enacted. This can be learned by following bills on their path through the legislature, through their analyses and amendments-information that is freely available to the public.
I think that too often among incumbents we see complacency and catering to donors' interests. Experience in analytical thinking, compromise and problem-solving can be gained in other arenas outside the state house. I have those skills and will bring a fresh eye to stalemates in Sacramento, along with a fire in my belly to stand up for what's right.
In order to successfully sustain the world's 5th largest economy and for our people to thrive going into the future, California needs to focus on water resource management, wildfire prevention, re-education and job training in new industries, and solving the health care and homelessness crises.
Yes. Legislating is a collaborative process and we need to find common ground even among those we may not always see eye to eye with. In a state as vast and diverse as California, elected officials in Sacramento come to the table representing widely diverging populations and interests. Lawmakers need to form relationships of respect with one another so that when the time comes, we are able to move past our differences and get things done.
I am extremely passionate about the people, environment and wildlife of the North State in California. There is so much work to be done to usher our health care, education, infrastructure and water & forest resources management into the future that I do not imagine moving on to any other office.
