Biography
Cownie's professional experience includes working as a staff member of the Iowa Senate Republican Caucus, as a legislative analyst for the Iowa State Senate, and as a scheduling and advance assistant to United States Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta.

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 14, 2014. Daniel Fessler was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Peter Cownie was unopposed in the Republican primary. On November 4, 2008, Cownie was elected to the 60th District Seat in the Iowa House of Representatives, defeating Alan R. Koslow (D) and Russ Gibson (L).[12] Cownie raised $62,924 for his campaign, while Koslow raised $10,353 and Gibson raised $2,200.[13]

Cownie is a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club, Bull Moose Club, and Variety Club of Central Iowa. Cownie is also President of the Junior Achievement of Central Iowa of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Director of the West Des Moines Community Enrichment Foundation.[14]
