Before serving on the Third District, Field worked in private practice at The Field Law Firm. Prior to that, he was a partner at York, Keller & Field, L.L.P. He began his career as a law clerk for the Hon. Raul Gonzalez and entered private practice at the firm Baker Botts, L.L.P.[1]

Field defeated Madeleine Connor in the Republican primary on May 29, winning 66.47% of the vote. He defeated incumbent Diane Henson in the general election on November 6, 2012, with 51.7% of the vote.[2][3]
