We are happy to welcome Isabelle Mateos y Lago within BNP Paribas as our new Chief Economist from 3 September 2024, replacing William De Vijlder, current BNP Paribas Chief Economist since 2014, who will be retiring in a few months’ time. Isabelle, previously Chief Markets Strategist at BlackRock, reports to Lars Machenil, the Group's Chief Financial Officer. William will take on the role of Economic Adviser to the Group's General Management, reporting to Lars Machenil. Isabelle Mateos y Lago brings a wealth of experience in economics, finance and geopolitics gained throughout her international career at leading financial institutions in France, the United States and the United Kingdom. Isabelle will continue to reinforce the BNP Paribas Economic Research Unit’s crucial role supporting the Group’s business lines and its clients, and develop new initiatives to ensure that BNP Paribas continues to benefit from cutting-edge economic research.

BNP Paribas has entered into exclusive negotiations with AXA to acquire 100% of AXA Investment Managers, with nearly €850bn in assets under management. This strategic move would include a long-term strategic partnership in Asset Management.   This envisaged acquisition would elevate BNP Paribas to a leading position in the European asset management sector, with combined assets under management totaling €1,500bn. It would also enhance our capabilities in managing long-term savings assets for insurers and pension funds.   The proposed transaction is expected to close by mid-2025, pending antitrust and regulatory approvals. https://lnkd.in/eX9_3P4T

The Group performed very well in the 2nd quarter 2024 thanks to the business momentum of its operating divisions. In the second half of 2024, we will also continue to implement operating efficiency measures, and maintain our disciplined management of cost of risk through the cycle. 2Q24 also confirmed BNP Paribas’ leadership in sustainability, as noted by recent rankings, in particular the “World’s Best Bank for Financial Inclusion” award at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2024. The second quarter saw the deployment of several innovative solutions to address client needs. In addition to this financial performance, the second quarter of 2024 showed the ongoing ambitious and disciplined development in artificial intelligence (AI), as illustrated by the recently expanded partnership with Mistral AI.
