It's sometimes hard to say goodbye! We meet new people, grow fond of them, and make friends. Sometimes, we have to bid them goodbye, like we did yesterday with the Teach For Portugal mentors at Baba Dogo Primary School. We had a farewell breakfast, followed by a tree-planting session and, finally, a football match to cap the day. We are thrilled that the mentors donated a Public Address system and beautiful jerseys to support the community football team. There are no final goodbyes between friends, so, see you soon 😄 #Teachforkenya #teachforportugal

TFK seeks to build a leadership force for the country that will catalyze systemic change in their communities to ensure that every Kenyan child unlocks their potential and is equipped to design a successful future for themselves. We aim to do this by recruiting talented young Kenyan leaders into a two-year teaching fellowship. The fellowship aims to place these high-potential leaders in teaching positions in high-need schools across the country, providing children with high-quality education and inspirational role models. Upon completion of the fellowship, these young leaders will be supported to take up leadership roles across society that will collectively contribute to the systemic change needed across Kenya to transform our schools, schooling systems, and the broader ecosystem of social and economic opportunity.

We had an expressive art session at Gramo Joy Pre & Primary School, which brought together learners, Artvista volunteers, our fellows, Teach For Portugal mentors, and system teachers. Art is a powerful medium for storytelling and cultural expression. Engaging in creative activities can also significantly boost self-confidence as children see their ideas come to life. This event demonstrated that expressive art is valuable for personal development and children's emotional well-being. We are grateful to Stand Out 4 Mental Health, led by our alumna Christine Ombima, for making the day successful. #teachforkenya #creativeart

Congratulations to the Grade 5 and 6 students from our partner school GRAMOJOY PRE & PRIMARY SCHOOL Thank you Joan Nyakongo for making this a success!
Absolutely thrilled to share that my Grade 5 and 6 students from GRAMOJOY PRE & PRIMARY SCHOOL clinched first place in the@Micato America Share Library Spelling Bee competition on Friday, July 19th! The competition, themed around Climate Change, challenged our students to explore topics such as Human Health, Infrastructure, Natural Disasters, and Global Temperatures. Over several weeks of intense research, practice, and collaboration, our five participants honed their skills in research, teamwork, confidence, and critical thinking, while also expanding their vocabulary and understanding of Climate Change Despite the challenges and unrest in our area due to ongoing demonstrations, these dedicated learners gave it their all. I couldn’t be prouder of their resilience and determination. A huge thank you to the school community for their unwavering support. We eagerly look forward to the next competition! Yesterday we held a breakfast meeting with the heads of our partner schools in Machakos County. The event was led by our CEO, Yukabeth Kidenda, alongside Rachel Mwangi - Head of Training and Leadership Development, and our Program Officer, Albert Kiptoo. We were honoured to have Mr. Simon Njiru, Machakos County Project Coordinator from the Ministry of Education, who expressed his gratitude and encouraged us to expand our reach across the county. Our Fellows, as reported by the heads of schools, have initiated various projects, reflecting the diverse professional backgrounds we advocate for. This diversity aligns with and supports students' dreams and aspirations. #teachforkenya #machakoscounty

We keep learning everyday 📖👏 25 of our Fellows recently participated in NABU's inaugural hybrid teacher training session dubbed “The Power of a Read Aloud”. The training was designed to be an educator's gateway to mastering interactive read-aloud sessions that not only nurture a love for reading but also significantly enhances literacy development in children. By incorporating interactive read-aloud techniques into their daily practice, our Fellows learnt how to create dynamic and interactive reading experiences that captivate students and support critical literacy skills. We are grateful to NABU for their support 🤝 #teachforkenya #readwithnabu
