In November 2023, we announced the introduction of a new regional strategic planning function, delivered by National Grid ESO. The Regional Energy Strategic Plan (RESP) will enable the coordinated development of the energy system across multiple vectors. It will enable proactive network infrastructure investment, while supporting a cost-effective transition to net zero. We are seeking feedback from stakeholders on three key areas: 🟠 Key building blocks of the RESP 🟠 Regional governance arrangements 🟠 Boundaries of each region The consultation is open for 10 weeks, with a final decision expected in Winter 2024. Stakeholder feedback will be crucial in refining our framework - review our proposals and submit your response by 8 October ⬇️ https://ow.ly/p7HZ50SN6Iz

Great news for customers that Ofgem has made the right decision to keep the ban on acquisition-only tariffs. Our research showed that 9 out of 10 customers wanted this ban kept in place and I’m really pleased their voices, those of our colleagues and our company - along with many other consumer groups - have been heard. We’ll continue to work in partnership with the regulator, the UK Government and consumer groups to deliver a longer-term package of reforms that ensure price protection for those who need it, incentivises innovation towards affordable and sustainable energy, and which inspires greater trust among consumers.

We’re extending our guarantee that all customers will have access to the cheapest available deals until at least until the current expiration date of 31 March 2025. We have listened to feedback: customers have the right to switch suppliers for better service, or more support, but this decision ensures suppliers don’t offer cut-price tariffs only to new customers. Read more on why we took this decision ⬇️ https://ow.ly/K1VZ50SMStv

Some of our senior leadership team recently visited Community Action Northumberland, a recipient of Ofgem schemes who performs important work with off-gas and off-grid households across a very rural area of Great Britain. This was an opportunity for our team to engage with a community organisation about the vital work they do to support rural energy consumers, and to engage on the some of the unique issues faced by rural communities in the North East of England. Follow the link to see what they do ⬇️ https://ow.ly/SPxX50SK5oY Ofgem is aware of the impact of fuel poverty on rural communities and our leaders discussed the challenges faced by rural consumer as well as how we work with community organisations to tackle these difficulties. We look forward to continuing to work with organisations to consider how energy policy can consider the unique experiences of rural and off-gas/off-grid households. Also visiting from Ofgem were Irina Dihanova, Yogita Nagara, Hilary Hill and Vic Tuffen BSc (Hons) CEng FIGEM FCMI MEI.
