Whiten stained grout in 2 minutes with 44p ‘miracle’ item - avoid bleach and white vinegar

Thanks to their timeless style and easy-clean surface, tiles are a popular choice in all kinds of homes, but unfortunately, the grout that lies between them can become dirty and discoloured over time.

Stains can appear on many surfaces around your home, but grout is probably the hardest place to remove them from - especially when those stains consist of mould.

Grout is particularly prone to mould because of how it is structured. Grout is porous so it can effectively do its job of protecting your tiles.

However, its absorbency also makes it the ideal area for mould to accumulate. Mould requires immediate action, as it looks unsightly and can pose health risks to you and your family.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Jess Haining asked for advice when it comes to cleaning dirt and mould-stained grout.

Posting a picture of the discoloured grout, Jess said: “What’s best to use to clean the grout on my tile bathroom wall grout to make them white again and get rid of the mould?”

Although bleach and white vinegar are commonly suggested for the task, these two items can wear down your grout severely.

Instead, Mrs Hinch fans suggested a completely chemical-free method that works quickly - magic erasers.

Shirley Clarke said: “Magic erasers work wonders. You just need to wet the sponge and give the grout a scrub.”

Janice Clarke commented: “A light scrub with a magic eraser gets the job done in two minutes.”

Posting a picture showing half of the grout stained and half whitened, Eleanor Newman said: “Magic eraser. I didn't believe it until I tried it. It works miracles.”

Some cleaning fans recommended pairing a magic eraser with any cleaning spray.

Stacie Cudd Doble wrote: “Magic eraser and any kind of spray like Elbow Grease or sometimes I just use an antibacterial spray.”

Julie Carter said: “I just use any old bathroom cleaner before going in with a magic eraser.”

Magic erasers are designed to effortlessly tackle stains on a wide range of surfaces without the need for chemicals.

Households can pick up a pack of 10 magic erasers from Nisbets for £4.42 or on Amazon for £4.98.

Customers like the quality and ease of use of the utility sponge. For example, they say it's great for cleaning marks and stubborn stains. That said, some complain about the thickness.
