Former Cabinet Minister Nadine Dorries has warned the Conservative Party will “probably disappear” at the general election.

The former culture secretary under Boris Johnson said the country is potentially witnessing the “annihilation” of the Tories.

She said: “What we’re seeing right now is possibly the annihilation of the Conservative Party.

“It’s probably going to disappear and, you know, certainly if Reform take over, given tactical voting which is taking place already in many constituencies and given the uprising in Reform’s votes and support since Nigel Farage decided he would stand as leader, I think you could see the disappearance of the Conservative Party.”

Ms Dorries resigned from the Commons in August last year, more than two months after pledging to go "with immediate effect".

She launched a blistering attack on Rishi Sunak in her resignation statement, telling the prime minister "history will not judge you kindly".

Meanwhile Mr Farage’s party poses a threat to the Tories as voters lurch more towards the right.

He announced he will become leader of Reform on Monday, as well as standing as a candidate in Clacton-on-Sea.

Three polls released in the last two days have showed a bounce since Mr Farage’s return to frontline politics.

In one projection, Reform UK’s vote share almost doubled since the Brexit architect’s new role was shared with Britons.

Mr Farage has said he will fight the election on immigration.

His party has proposed a tax on businesses for employing overseas workers.

This would see firms pay a higher 20 percent rate of National Insurance for foreign workers, up from the current 13.8 percent.

He said he was aiming for “this political party to become the voice of opposition in the next parliament” which he claimed the Conservatives are “incapable” of being.
