The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation after one of the Labour Party’s London HQs was reportedly defaced with anti-Israel graffiti.

The building, in Chingford and Woodford Green in North London, has been drawn on with what could be black marker with an alleged anti-Israel message.

Scrawled on the office’s windows, the message said: “Israel Lobby Out. Work 4 Us. UK MPs Work For UK. Not Israel.”

Following the incident, the remnants of which passersby first noticed on Saturday as people tried to clean it off, the Metropolitan Police has opened an investigation.

“Officers are investigating. There has been no arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers, quoting CAD 2106/01jun.”

In a statement, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Chingford and Woodford Green, Shama Tatler added: “This shameful vandalism is not just an attack on our campaign – it’s an attack on our whole community.

“Together, we will defeat the forces of hatred and antisemitism and take our positive message of change to residents here in Chingford and Woodford Green.”

The incident comes as the build-up to the general election continues and parties begin to set out their stalls ahead of the vote on July 4.

Earlier today, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer announced a pledge to cut levels of net migration should be victorious next month.

Speaking to the Sun, Sir Keir said: “Read my lips – I will bring immigration numbers down. If you trust me with the keys to No10 I will make you this promise: I will control our borders and make sure British businesses are helped to hire Brits first.”

Sir Keir added that today's Labour Party was a changed Labour Party that had returned to being in the service of working people which meant acting to cut high migration.
