A bacon sandwich has left social media in stitches as they believe a 'blindfolded five-year-old' could make a better meal.

An image of the poorly cut butty appeared on the Rate My Plate page on Facebook, where users weigh in on dishes from across the country.

This particular meal, from Sam, did not impress. Instead of the usual praise spent on full roast dinners or classic pub grub, mockery met the meal which was dubbed "ragebait" by one user.

Racking up hundreds of laugh reacts and dozens of comments slating the sandwich, Sam's dish was certainly not a favoured item for the Rate My Plate followers.

One of many users questioned the cutting technique of the sandwich, with the usual triangle or halved slices nowhere to be seen. Instead, the technique was all over the place, with the sandwich cut into five misshapen segments.

One user wrote: "Ah! Sam has a black belt in chopping sandwiches I see [sic]." Another added: "That's it I'm ringing the police for the way you cut that sandwich."

A third added: "Did they just loosen the straight jacket enough for you to cut the sandwich then tighten it back up."

Even children could do better according to one person who joked: "Jesus my five-year-old could do better blindfolded." But some came to Sam's defence and said the erratic method of slicing the sandwich was actually a wonderful way to consume the butty.

One claimed: "Honestly try it, it makes you feel like you've got more out of you sandwich. Instead of straight down middle I do 2 cuts to make 3 triangles of bread."

Another wrote: "Love the cutting of the butty - which gives an interesting way to choose which cut to pick and savour - 10/10 for 'sassy' cutting!"

A third wrote: "4.5/10. Poor showing of actual bacon filling, bad lighting so none of us are sure if that's a 'splodge' of ketchup atop your sandwich, but + 2.4 points for an interesting geographical 'Pablo Picasso' sandwich cut... so 6.9 / 10."
