Donald Trump 'won't allow free elections as long as he's alive' as critic launches attack

A former Republican who is anti-Trump said: "If you like having elections, if you like having a free country...if you are standing against Putin, then you only have one choice. That is Joe Biden."

Donald Trump will not allow another free election "as long as he is alive" if he wins the Presidency in November, it has been claimed.

The former President is running against Joe Biden in a rematch of the 2020 election, where Trump lost and subsequently claimed the vote was "stolen."

Ryan Wiggins of the Lincoln Project – a group of former Republicans opposed to Trump – warns that Trump could end democracy in the US as we know it.

She told Times Radio: "My message to all Americans is that you have a choice when it comes to your life going forward, and that choice is going to be made in November.

"If you like having elections, if you like having a free country...if you are standing against Putin, then you only have one choice. That is Joe Biden.

Wiggins said the country would be

"If Trump is elected, there will not be a free election as long as he is alive.

"Under Joe Biden, god forbid something was to happen to him and Kamala Harris had to take over as president, this country would be just fine.

"Geopolitically we would be just fine, we would have an election in four years where you would have two new candidates. If you want democracy to continue, there is only one option, and that is Joe Biden."

Trump sparked concern about what a second term in office would mean after he vowed in December to be a dictator on "day one" of his presidency should he win.

Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump to reassure people he would not undermine democracy if he were to win the election.

Trump said he wouldn't, but added: "Except for day one."

Trump's election campaign has taken another blow, however, after he was found guilty on all 34 felony counts in his hush money trial.

The former President was ruled to have falsified his business records to cover up payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

After the verdict, Trump branded the US a "fascist state" as he railed against the judge and judiciary.

Meanwhile, Daniels told The Mirror that Trump should be jailed.

She said: “I think he should be sentenced to jail and some community service working for the less fortunate, or being the volunteer punching bag at a women’s shelter."
