On Sunday night, Britain's Got Talent viewers saw ITV’s Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly announce Sydnie Christmas as this year’s winner. The contestant managed to impress viewers at home with her singing skills, as she joined the likes of Paul Potts, Diversity and George Sampson in the history of BGT winners.

However, it seemed as though not everyone was thrilled with Sydnie being announced as the winner. Taking to Twitter, @MrsBigJock commented: “I suspect a fix!”

@LaurenyWebster said: “Another @BGT fix [sic] another person who is trained in singing and theatre who has been on stage before… amazing singer but there were other acts who should have had their chance! Ah well…“

@18jc2__ wrote: “Obvious fix for Syndie to win, let’s be real. Jack Rhodes got robbed of winning the show, by far the best act of the night. 2nd place for him.” @lauraelliot88 reeled: “Biggest fix there is.”

With @Ariadne_Reviews adding: “If it wasn't obvious enough that Sydnie Christmas is the favourite to win, whipping out Somewhere Over The Rainbow certainly does it #BGTFinal #bgt #BritainsGotTalent."

Despite the backlash, some ITV viewers were thrilled to see Sydnie take the BGT 2024 crown.

@OliverParr17 said: “Sydnie Christmas is a very deserved #BGT winner. She was absolutely fantastic from the first audition.”

With @NatashaSpurs commenting: “Well deserved Sydnie. I remember shouting at the TV "she's the winner" during her audition.”

After learning she'd won the competition, it was clear the 28-year-old was in disbelief, as she started screaming and jumping up and down with excitement.

Speaking about her win, Sydnie started to get emotional, as she said: “I cannot believe the amount of love that I’ve felt since it aired.

“I am overwhelmed with love and it’s the most amazing thing. I wish, I wish for one day that every single person in this room can feel the way that I do, one day, with this love.

“It’s amazing, thank you so much.”

Sydnie will be walking away with a whopping £250,000 cash prize and a spot at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.

The singer blew the nation away in the final with her rendition of Over the Rainbow.

Narrowly missing out on first place was magician Jack Rhodes, who left judge Alesha Dixon speechless with his act.

Throughout the night, viewers also saw the likes of Abigail & Afronitaa, Trixy, Haribow and Innocent Masuku perform.

Mike Woodhams, Northants Sings Out, and Ssaulabi also took to the stage on Sunday evening.

However, it was Sydnie’s performance that won her the title of Britain's Got Talent champion 2024.

Britain's Got Talent is available to watch on ITVX.
