The Strategic National Stockpile released a new eLearning course on the Federal Medical Station (FMS) for the 2024 hurricane season! The two-module course is designed to assist public health and emergency response partners with an overview of FMS and Alternate Care Site models and capabilities during a national emergency or natural disaster. Starting at the end of September, households across the country will be eligible to order 4 free COVID-19 tests at COVIDtests.gov. The COVID-19 tests will detect current COVID-19 variants and can be used through at least the end of 2024.

Under extreme heat, utilities may not perform normally or break down. Patients may be left without durable medical equipment, air conditioning, and power. Responders with ASPR’s National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) are on-site to provide medical support at #DNC2024 in the City of Chicago . Yesterday, these responders set up medical aid stations at the Democratic National Convention to provide everything from first aid to advance life support, if it is needed.

At the request of the U.S. Secret Service and the City of Chicago, responders with ASPR’s National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) deployed to provide medical support at #DNC2024. When NDMS teams deploy, they bring both highly trained medical staff and the medical supplies and equipment needed to complete the mission. Over the weekend, these responders received a briefing on the specific assets that have been deployed and their mission assignments.

Perhaps second only to masks, gloves are a focal point of personal protective equipment in the medical and industrial spaces. In June 2021, U.S. Medical Glove Co. was awarded $63.3 million and partnered with IBMSC to increase the domestic production capacity of nitrile gloves by over 2 billion gloves per year to ensure hundreds of millions of gloves per month are available for ASPR’s Strategic National Stockpile supplies. U.S. Medical Glove Co.’s newest North American plant is also the only North American plant producing polyisoprene latex that meets ISO 9000 standards, which eliminates dependency on surgical gloves from Southeast Asia. The partnership between IBMSC and U.S. Medical Glove highlights the transformative impact of strategic investments needed in the domestic manufacturing world. TriLink Biotechnologies’ new manufacturing site that produces key components of mRNA-based vaccines and therapeutics is now online following a $38 million investment by ASPR’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.
