BAFTX has been supporting scholars from Swansea University for over 10 years to spend a semester at college in Texas. This international experience widens horizons and offers new perspectives… personally, culturally and academically. Congratulations graduates!
Fantastic to see Swansea University students who’ve studied abroad in Texas graduating last week! Congratulations to Kinga Świętoń who has just graduated with a BEng in Medical Engineering. As part of her degree, Kinga spent a semester studying at Texas A&M University, supported by a scholarship from BAFTX British American Foundation of Texas. BAFTX has been supporting Swansea University students since 2013, and to date it has helped almost 40 Swansea students participate in life-changing study abroad in Texas.

On this day two months ago, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at Arlington. Throughout my three years of undergraduate study, I have grown and learned immensely. I am deeply grateful to God, my family, my preceptors, my professors, my scholarship sponsors, and my peers for their support in making this day possible. It was a tremendous honor to wear my ao dai, the traditional Vietnamese formal attire, as I crossed the stage. Working in the operating room in an anesthesia care team model (ACT), caring for patients during their most vulnerable moments, and having patients on my anesthesia plan to ensure they experience little to no pain is my true calling. I vividly remember coming to America 8 years ago with the goal of creating a better life for my family and myself. From a low-income background family where healthcare is severely underserved, with non-English speaking parents, and as a first-generation student, I have never imagined reaching this point in my American journey. I am incredibly humbled to stand where I am today, and I truly believe in the American dream.
