Big thanks to Everett Herald reporter Ta'Leah Van Sistine and photographer Ryan Berry for shining an environmental spotlight on our new state-of-the-art water treatment facility. It's the first time this filtering technology has been used at this scale, meaning a relatively small site cleans stormwater for a large area of downtown. Bonus: it functions as an extension of the park! https://lnkd.in/gzRHG9XH

Yesterday we were delighted to officially open the Downtown Stormwater Treatment Plant on 1st Street west of Ebey Waterfront Park. Thanks to a $7.6 million grant from Washington State Department of Ecology, this new facility uses green technology to clean stormwater runoff from the downtown area, removing oils and other pollutants before the water drains into Ebey Slough. It will clean 110 million gallons of water every year and prevent more than 100,000 pounds of pollution from entering our waterways over the next 20 years! Many thanks to city staff and our project partners: Mcclure And Sons INC Dutton Electric Company Inc Systems Interface Inc. The Obstacle Overcomer Award, our third award from the 3rd annual Marysville Business Summit, honors a company that has faced one or more significant challenges by adopting a new business practice or strategy. Quil Ceda Leather started as Jansha Tannery in 1932. Despite her severe anxiety, Lacey Coragiulo began working there at age 19 with no experience in leather or business operations. She learned everything on the job by reading books and shadowing the then-owners. Lacey took over the business when the tannery was on the verge of closing, and expanded clientele by marketing to motorcycle groups, small businesses and events. Learn more about this year’s Obstacle Overcomer Award winner, owner Lacey Coragiulo and Quil Ceda Leather.

The Historic Business Award, our second award from the 3rd annual Marysville Business Summit, honors a company that has successfully been in business in Marysville for more than 50 years. Oosterwyk’s Dutch Bakery has been a regional destination for pastries and baked goods for 70 years. The story of this family-owned business started in 1954 when Gerard Oosterwyk, a master baker from The Netherlands and palace bread baker for the Dutch royal family, moved with his family to Marysville. Today owner (and Gerard’s daughter) Marja Oosterwyk does her best to uphold her family’s legacy and traditions. In honor of #NationalPoliceWeek, the Marysville Police Department is proud to announce the unveiling of the newly enhanced Wall of Honor located in the MPD lobby. This display serves as a tribute to the hardworking and dedicated law enforcement professionals serving the Marysville community. Engraved on the wall are recipients of MPD's Support Staff Employee of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Custody Officer of the Year, Officer of the Year, and Don Arndt Medal of Distinction. The wall also displays the Purple Heart Award in memoriam of MPD Sergeant William "Don" Arndt, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Feb. 5, 1966. National Police Week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. National Police Week draws between 25,000 to 40,000 attendees each year to Washington, D.C. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e4VhJzt

Congratulations to PacTrust, now leasing the first of several planned light industrial buildings in the Marysville Corporate Center east of Smokey Point Boulevard on 156th Street NE. When Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring stopped by yesterday for a tour, project leaders cited the many benefits of locating a business in the Cascade Industrial Center, including excellent transportation access, efficient permitting processes, affordable housing and quality of life.

The 3rd annual Marysville Business Awards were announced last week. The Community Champion Award honors a company that, in addition to its core business, provides significant community support.   3rd Street Book Exchange has intentionally positioned itself as a community-centered space. Owner Rachel Nanfito cherishes the concept of the bookstore as a “third place,” a place to gather outside of home or work. Rachel believes that business is not just about selling books, but about connecting people. Learn more about this year’s Community Champion Award winner, owner Rachel Nanfito and 3rd Street Book Exchange.
