As we wrap up #NationalBreastfeedingMonth, we have the honor of sharing the inspiration and wisdom of one of our lactation consultants. Jennifer Rian Mendiola credits families for their ability to tap into their instincts as parents and caregivers. She supports them as they navigate breastfeeding, urging them, “You know what’s best for your child and family. You know. I trust you and I want you to trust yourself.” Read her interview: https://ow.ly/9ELu50T7yYZ

Minnesota is experiencing measles outbreaks in the metro, especially among unvaccinated children. Measles spreads rapidly, putting anyone who isn't fully vaccinated at risk. Adults and children, catch up on your MMR vaccine to protect yourself from serious illness. If you have questions about the vaccine or measles, talk to your health care provider. Make an appointment today, call 612-873-6963.

Emily Brant, RN – SICU “I work night shifts with a lot of the same nurses. We’re a young team, and we’re all willing to help each other, like when a tough admission comes through. There’s a lot of camaraderie when you’re working with fewer colleagues. Night shift can be hard on your body and sleep schedule, but you get really close with the people you work with. It’s a good experience. Recently, I was lucky to care for a patient who became an organ donor upon their death. I worked closely with their family, who were grateful for the care they received. We teamed up with physicians and the patient successfully donated organs. It was both a sad and rewarding experience that has stuck with me.” Hennepin Healthcare Foundation is proud to highlight authentic stories from the wide variety of human beings who connect with our mission. The sky is the limit for our talented Talent Garden interns! Thanks to Minnesota Hospital Association for talking with Marcos and the other future healthcare professionals who rounded with our teams.
Marcos Odegard is going to Santa Clara University this fall after a summer internship at Hennepin County Medical Center. Hennepin Healthcare's Talent Garden program is helping spark interest in a new generation of medical professionals, like Marcos. It’s one of the many ways hospitals are helping their communities in Minnesota. #communitybenefit
