Project Comms was joined by accomplished filmmaker, editor, and documentarian Andrès Arias for a talk about storytelling and creative decision-making. The boys participated in a still-frame organizing activity, featuring the Spanish black-and-white film Blancanieves, showcasing the magic of editing and how simple arrangements of the same images can tell a thousand stories. Members were encouraged not only to view the films they watched, but to analyze what elements made them impactful. After breaking down scenes from his own work, like the documentary Brimstone and Glory, Andrès tasked members with creating their own one-minute short films. These films will help them learn to construct and refine impactful narratives. Thank you, Andrès, for an engaging session. Project Comms looks forward to taking these lessons in narrative construction and applying them to our upcoming short films. We can’t wait to show you our work! Learn more about Andrès Arias upcoming work, Barrio Television. Directed by Christina DiPasquale, Barrio Television is the untold story of Puerto Rican activists who created the first bilingual public affairs series for Latinos on national television in a fight for authentic stories and media power- a struggle that continues to this day.
