  • SF Wide Receiver #14
Pearsall was shot in an attempted robbery just days before the first week of the season. He was then placed on the NFI list, sidelining him for at least four weeks. Per Garafolo, Pearsall was pushing to play in Week 1 against the Jets but that obviously wasn’t a realistic possibility. Still, this is as good of an update as we could have hoped for. San Francisco’s first-round wideout should step into a part-time role once he is able to suit up. Jauan Jennings and possibly fellow rookie Jacob Cowing will see the WR3 reps for now.
  • SF Running Back #23
Per Garafolo, McCaffrey is expected to see a full complement of snaps. He did not that the team will be keeping a close eye on McCaffrey for obvious reasons. It’s possible backup Jordan Mason sees a few more snaps than usual, but fantasy managers shouldn’t be worried about their superstar running back. McCaffrey was listed as questionable for this game after practicing in a limited capacity throughout the week. He still ranks as the top FLEX option for Week 1. Mason is a strong stash for fantasy rosters that can afford to burn a spot on the bench.
  • SF Wide Receiver #11
Per Wagoner, left tackle Trent Williams should see something close to his usual workload. Kyle Shanahan told reporters he “didn’t know” how much Aiyuk will play. Shanny did say that Aiyuk normally plays the entire game but he would be surprised if the star receiver saw that much work in Week 1. Aiyuk spent most of the summer “holding in”, meaning he wasn’t practicing with the team until late in the offseason. Even with a reduction in snaps, most fantasy managers have to take the gamble and play San Francisco’s most efficient pass-catcher. Aiyuk ranks as a high-end WR2 for Week 1.
  • SF Running Back #23
McCaffrey was limited in practice throughout the week but reportedly avoided any setbacks from his strained calf. While it doesn’t appear he is any danger of missing Monday Night Football’s game against the Jets, fantasy managers would be wise to expect a slight dip in volume after McCaffrey sat out the final two weeks of preseason and was limited all week leading up to the game. That could mean additional snaps and opportunities for Jordan Mason with Elijah Mitchell done for the season.
  • SF Running Back #23
Third-string running back Isaac Guerendo (groin) was also limited. 49ers GM John Lynch told reporters earlier today that McCaffrey was “doing great.” McCaffrey was also limited in Thursday’s practice. Though the timing of the injury isn’t ideal, there have been no indications that the superstar running back is at risk of missing Week 1. With Elijah Mitchell on injured reserve, the 49ers may not even be able to scale back McCaffrey’s workload as much as they want to. Barring a sudden turn of events, CMC remains the top asset in all of fantasy land.
  • SF Running Back #23
Lynch said of McCaffrey, “We have to finish this week, but he looks like Christian, and that’s a good thing for us. Obviously we want to see him progress through the week. We had confidence he’d be ready...he’ll be out there and ready to go.” It doesn’t sound like McCaffrey is at real risk of missing Monday night’s contest against the Jets, but we’ll see what happens after the Niners log their final practice on Saturday. It would be surprising if McCaffrey didn’t play in Week 1.
  • SF Safety #29
Hufanga was removed from injured reserve back on August 27 and is returning from a torn ACL that ended his 2023 campaign. The fourth-year vet is expected to be eased back into things but could still make the start on Monday night when the Niners take on the Jets. His availability will likely depend on how things go throughout the week, but a limited session out of the gate is a good sign for the 2022 First-Team All-Pro.
  • SF Wide Receiver #15
Jennings will open the season in his typical WR3 role after Ricky Pearsall was placed on the NFI list following a gunshot wound in an attempted robbery attempt over the weekend. Jennings caught 19 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown last season and won’t be on the fantasy radar even if he can go this week.
  • SF Running Back #23
This is the first practice of the week for the 49ers, who face the Jets on Monday night. McCaffrey didn’t take a preseason snap due to a calf strain he suffered in early August and is clearly still working through things. Playing through calf and/or Achilles injuries always seems risky, so we’ll see how things go for CMC throughout the week. That he can log a limited session with five days until kick-off is a good sign he’ll be ready for Week 1, but we’ll see how things progress. In the unlikely scenario McCaffrey sits, Jordan Mason would have high-end RB2 upside against the Jets.
  • SF Running Back #23
While McCaffrey has sat out the whole preseason nursing a calf strain, this news comes as little surprise. It’s been known that CMC would likely be ready for the season as he started working out on the side (during practice) a couple of weeks ago. The consensus top-pick in fantasy will be ready to go for Week 1 against a Jets’ defense that ranked as a top-five unit in 2023.
