Matt was awarded a Top Secret clearance with special background investigation. After receiving his Business Management degree, Matt planned to return the Army as a Warrant Officer and Helicopter Pilot. It was in this period that 9/11 occurred. Because of his special skill set, the Federal Government requested Matt's service. Matt worked for multiple federal agencies until 2012. - Education - I believe parents are the primary stakeholders in their children's education and a critical part of the political process. Labeling parents as domestic terrorists for participating in the political process as stakeholders in their children's education is unconscionable. I will advocate for school choice and the money following the child. I support P.A.C.E. (www.pacesc.info) and other private programs that introduce competitive excellence in South Carolina education.
- Infrastructure - We need a complete audit of the SCDOT and to create a cabinet level position responsible for our roads. This position would be appointed by the governor to ensure it’s held accountable. With this new cabinet position accountable to the Governor and the General Assembly performing its budgetary responsibility, we can end the State Infrastructure Bank. It is not enough to be reactive with “pothole blitz” that do not provide long term solutions. The SC Transportation infrastructure budget increased by 54% from 2009 to 2017 ($1.627 billion). It doesn’t matter how much money we throw at our poor roads and infrastructure if there is not significant strengthening of accountability regarding decisions made at the SCDOT.
- Protect the Family - The family is being attacked today and we must be bold to defend it. Often the attacks come through incursions on the Constitution by activist judges. One of the important roles of a legislator in South Carolina is to vet judicial candidates and I will only support those candidates with a strong basis of moral values who will interpret the Constitution as it was originally intended. I will sponsor legislation to protect women's sports for biological women.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
