Intel India is ramping up its focus on hiring from tier 2 and tier 3 colleges.

Every year the company engages with 5-6 newer sets of tier 2 and 3 colleges with the intent to expand its pool and tap into the best available talent.

"Great talent is no longer confined to a boundary, and as an organisation, our constant endeavour is to identify and bring home passionate and driven young minds from these colleges," said Vijay Colaco, HR director, Intel India.

"There is attrition data that also suggests that individuals from these institutes focus on building long-term careers with the organisation. We invest a lot of time and effort in providing training from technical know-how to behavioural aspects as part of professional development to all college graduates for a holistic, well-rounded future," Colaco added.

The company has rolled out multiple initiatives to nurture and grow the talent not only for Intel but for the industry at large.

Through a network of system integrators, Intel aims to set up 100 Intel Unnati Data-Centric Labs in emerging technologies. The programme will also focus on expanding its network to include many educational institutes and universities providing them with long-term capabilities in technology, lab infrastructure, and enabling a greater focus on research and innovation.

"Around 65-70% of our college graduate hiring comes from intern conversion from tier 2 and 3 campuses. Our Intern hiring programme is one that we pride ourselves in, where we identify talent, offer them an opportunity to intern with us giving them exposure to some of the most unique innovative opportunities and in the process build great talent for the organisation," said Colaco.
