How to sing when you're winning

    Synopsis

As IPL fever begins, perhaps it's time to revisit the spirit with which the Caribbean team celebrated their win.

The song has hit more than five million views on YouTube since the West Indies lifted the World T20 at Eden Gardens and Dwayne Bravo's 'Champion' is still echoing in Kolkata. As IPL fever begins, perhaps it's time to revisit the spirit with which the Caribbean team celebrated their win. The real party began once the team reached their hotel, Taj Bengal, at about 12.30 am on April 4, with their speakers, iPods and phones playing the theme song on repeat.

All the players did the victory step and sang aloud. The lobby was filled with cheering guests, so special barricades with long tables were put up. "There was a deluge of selfies and fans in the lobby... even little kids staying up till 2 am," remembers Samrat Datta, the hotel's GM. Everyone enjoyed the impromptu celebration, toasted with champagne and a special gold-dusted, six-pound truffle cake made of premium French chocolate from Valrhona. The team had also built up a winning appetite, ordering a mix of penne arrabbiata, pepperoni pizza and burgers. A lesson here for the IPL boys.
