Tamil superstar Suriya is a part of 397 new members invited this year to the privileged Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The ‘Soorarai Pottru’ actor was extended the invitation on Tuesday. Suriya joining the esteemed panel is seen as jubilation for many from the southern film fraternity.

He thanked The Academy and said that he humbly accepted the invite. He thanked his fans and asserted that he will always strive to make all proud.

“Thank you@TheAcademy for the invitation, which I humbly accept. My heartfelt thanks to all those who wished me, will always strive to make you all proud!” wrote Suriya.
Meanwhile, superstar Kamal Haasan, who is currently riding on the astounding success of his latest thriller ‘Vikram’ took to Twitter to celebrate Suriya’s achievement.

The acclaimed actor said that he was a proud brother to Suriya who has joined the crowd of excellence. He said that he was glad that Suriya treads the ground of stars.
“Glad my brother @Suriya_offl treads the ground of stars. In spite of gravity, which makes wings weak. We created angels and stars. Hence be proud brother to join the crowd of excellence,” tweeted Haasan.
Suriya responded to Haasan by retweeting his appreciation with a 'Thank you Anna!'
Following the development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that Suriya had become the first south Indian actor to receive an invite from the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines the winners of the Oscar Awards each year, to be a part of it. According to Stalin, the invite was a recognition of Suriya's evolved acting skills and his choice of stories that were focused on societal well-being.

Suriya was seen making a cameo appearance in Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ recently. Elated over the film's phenomenal success, Haasan had gifted the ‘Jai Bhim’ actor with a uber luxurious Rolex watch. Incidentally, Suriya’s character in ‘Vikram’ is also named Rolex.
While Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi was the first south Indian actor to attend the Oscar Awards in 1987, Suriya has become the first South Indian actor to join as one of the members of the Oscar Awards committee for the 95th Academy Awards.
