    Sayonara, Seattle!

After 29 years of his adult life in the Pacific Northwest, Jeff Bezos now has a new address. On Friday, the Amazon founder announced on Instagram that he was moving to Miami from the Seattle region.

"I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a place in my heart," Bezos captioned his Instagram post.

Terming it an "emotional decision", the billionaire said that the relocating was prompted by his wish to be closer to his parents who had recently moved back to Miami where Bezos had lived when he was younger, and the Cape Canaveral operations of Blue Origin, his space exploration company.

Bezos, in his post, wrote that his parents have been his biggest cheerleaders and the move would help him spend time with them. "My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of ’82 — GO Panthers!) I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami."

The billionaire's biological dad Ted Jorgensen left when he was a baby, and his mum Jacklyn then married Miguel ‘Mike’ Bezos, a Cuban immigrant, who has raised Jeff.

Bezos, who is currently the world’s third-wealthiest man, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index — posted a video on Instagram. The video showed a young Bezos in his Seattle garage where he set up the Amazon shop way back in 1994.

Bezos has been credited with the transformation of Seattle into a bustling technology hub, courtesy Amazon which remains the city’s biggest private employer. In 2021, Bezos stepped down as Amazon chief executive officer and assumed the role of executive chairman. Andy Jassy succeeded the billionaire in the Amazon hot seat.

Recently, Bezos bought a seven-bedroom mansion in Indian Creek, an island in the larger Miami area. He also owns a range of homes in Washington, DC, New York City, Los Angeles and Maui, as well as a 300,000-acre ranch in Texas, the base of the launch site for Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.
