Shah Rukh Khan’s latest cinematic venture, 'Dunki,' directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, initially graced the silver screens on December 21, 2023, garnering attention and applause worldwide. Following its successful theatrical run, the much-anticipated film has now found its digital abode on the popular OTT platform Netflix, marking its OTT release on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024.

    'Dunki' Plot and Cast

The movie, which delves into the theme of immigration, explores the trials and tribulations of individuals embarking on the arduous journey to pursue their dreams abroad, aptly named the ‘donkey flight’. Starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan are stellar actors like cTaapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Anil Grover, and Vikram Kochhar, each contributing to the film's rich narrative tapestry.

In an interview with the news agency ANI, the film's director Rajkumar Hirani expressed his delight in collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan, stating, “You always want to make a movie with a meaningful and good story. Shah Rukh liked the story from the beginning. After doing action movies, as an actor, he also wanted to do something different and this is the reason he was very involved and happy about it."

    Box Office Success

Despite garnering mixed reviews from both audiences and critics alike, 'Dunki' ventured into the realms of success, grossing a commendable Rs 454 crore worldwide, as reported by Sacnilk.com. The film, albeit not matching the colossal success of Shah Rukh Khan’s previous ventures, 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan,' resonated with audiences, showcasing a different facet of the versatile actor.

'Dunki' faced its cinematic clash with South star Prabhas' blockbuster 'Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire,' yet managed to carve its niche in the hearts of moviegoers. While it didn’t ascend to the same box office echelon as its predecessors, the film’s impact transcended monetary measures, resonating deeply with audiences.
