    WHO NOW?
A couple in Staten Island, New York.

    WHAT ABOUT THEM?
Did you ever dream of finding a chest full of treasure, buried deep inside your backyard? Just like Tom Sawyer did.

    ARE WE GETTING ANY TREASURE?
Well, not us. But Matthew and Maria Colonna-Emanuel did.

    PLS EXPLAIN.
Matthew and Maria were having new trees planted when the incredible discovery was made. They thought a piece of rusty metal behind some trees, submerged in dirt in their backyard was just a discarded metal box.

    WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
Bags full of diamonds, gold and jade were inside the box — which they later learned is a safe — plus wads of wet $100 bills — $52,000 in total.

    WHERE WAS THIS BOX?
The couple have lived in their home completely unaware of the treasure in their garden for fours years. They thought the piece of rusty metal behind some trees in their backyard was just part of a cable or electrical box.

    HOW LUCK STRIKES!
But it turned out the enormous haul had actually been stolen from their neighbours seven years ago. The New York Police Department said a burglary was reported at their neighbours' home the day after Christmas in 2011. The only thing taken was the safe. It had a large amount of cash, jewellery and other items inside: a total of $52,000 worth of property.

    DID THE EMANUELS RETURN IT?
They did. The couple have now placed a white statue of an elephant in the spot where the safe once sat, to serve as a reminder of the discovery.
