Kolkata: Post-poll violence erupted in various parts of West Bengal with a BJP worker allegedly being beheaded in Krishnanagar's Kaligunj and miscreants escaping with the head of the deceased. Meanwhile, Sandeshkhali was on a boil with women protesting and preventing the central forces, police and RAF from entering Sandeshkhali to arrest a person in connection with Saturday's violence.

In Kaligang, in a brutal murder, Hafijul Sheikh was shot at and then hacked twice to ensure his death allegedly by Trinamool miscreants. Following his death, his head was separated from his body and taken away by the miscreants. Sheikh was having tea at a local tea shop, which was just a stone's throw from his house, when the incident happened.

BJP Krishnanagar candidate Amrita Roy rushed to the spot on Sunday. "I knew about Hafijul joining our party. It is really painful that in this present age, someone's head is taken away after murder. This is saddism and perversion," Roy said. "My brother and I joined the BJP two months back and we had our own organisation. This was not tolerated by Trinamool and thus we were attacked," Hafijul Sheikh's brother said.

Hafijul was earlier with the CPI(M) and joined the BJP two months back, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Meanwhile, fresh trouble erupted in Sandeshkhali with police entering the villages in Sandeshkhali's Agarhati, along with CAPF and RAF on Sunday afternoon, and conducting raids. Women claimed that they were beaten up and tortured by police. The women gheraoed before the police vehicle and prevented the arrest of a BJP worker by dragging him out of the police van, people in the know said.

In separate incidents, CPI-M workers were attacked in various parts of Jadavpur constituency. A woman CPI-M worker was allegedly attacked by Trinamool miscreants and her nose was punched. She received injury in her chest. Bombing was reported in two locations of Barrackpore constituency, including in front of the residence of BJP candidate Arjun Singh's polling agent.

BJP has complained about rigging in Diamond Harbour and demanded repolling.
