    The rivalry between Boeing and Airbus is well known. Boeing has been having some safety concerns and it has been reported that they will missing out on the upcoming Farnborough International air show. The company has been fixing issues related to its safety and has nothing new to offer except its 737 Max aircraft. Its European counterpart Airbus on the other hand is unveiling its new long-range aircraft which is expected to encourage airlines to operate non-stop flights on various long duration routes. The airline industry has taken a keen interest on the A-321 XLR aircraft. This international air show is one of the aviation sector’s most attended events.

    A-321 XLR aircraft:

    This is a single aisle aircraft which is yet to be certified by the authorities. This is the longest aircraft in Airbus’ A-321 Neo Family. Airbus said that the aircraft is equipped to deal with long distance flights. There is an extra rear center fuel tank which will help the aircraft fly up to 5400 miles non-stop. This means that the aircraft can be airborne for a period of 11 hours.

    The company also stated that there is a 30% reduced fuel burn as compared to previous generation aircrafts.

    Orders:

    Airbus has already received 550 orders for this aircraft from Indigo, Qantas, Air Asia X and the Czech Airlines among others.

    Long distance routes:

    There are several long-distance routes across the world and it is expected that airlines who have placed orders for these aircrafts will deploy them in these routes. Iberia has already opened bookings for the Madrid to Boston sector from November 14. The XLR aircraft will be deployed. There are several other airlines which are planning to expand their business and fly directly into destinations which are considered to be long distance, non-stop.
