Sikkim Election Results 2024 highlights: With the counting of votes for the Sikkim Assembly elections beginning today, anticipation is high. The elections, which took place on April 19, 2024, will see their results starting to be counted from 6 am, with election authorities aiming to complete the process and announce the results for the 32 Assembly constituencies by 2 pm.

This year, Sikkim witnessed a voter turnout of 79.77 percent, a slight dip from the 2019 Assembly elections, as reported by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The state, nestled in the Himalayas, has a total of 4.64 lakh registered voters.

In this electoral battle for the 32 assembly seats, the primary contenders are the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). Other significant parties in the fray include the BJP and Congress. Presently, the SKM governs the state with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at the helm. SKM is striving to retain power for a second consecutive term, whereas the SDF, which dominated the state's political landscape for 25 years until 2019, is making a bid to reclaim its former status.

To secure a majority and form the government, a party needs at least 17 seats. In the 2019 elections, SKM managed to win exactly 17 seats, which enabled Prem Singh Tamang to become the Chief Minister. On the other hand, the incumbent SDF was left with 15 seats. This marked a significant shift from the 2014 elections, where the SDF had won 22 seats, ensuring Pawan Kumar Chamling his fifth consecutive term as Chief Minister.

As the counting progresses, all eyes will be on whether SKM can hold onto its position or if the SDF will make a strong comeback.
