    Delhi: Environment Minister Gopal Rai urges NCR states to ban firecrackers ahead of Diwali

Rai stated that if the trend of reduced firecracker bursting observed during Dussehra continues for Diwali, it will have a positive impact on pollution levels in Delhi. The overall air quality in the city was recorded as "moderate" on Wednesday morning. Rai also mentioned that stubble burning is ongoing, but the number of cases is currently low.

    Petrol, diesel sales fall ahead of start of festive season

    Preliminary data from state-owned firms in India showed that petrol and diesel sales declined in the first half of October. This drop was attributed to the larger base of sales from the same period last year. Petrol sales fell 9% year-on-year, while diesel consumption dropped 3.2%. However, month-on-month sales of diesel increased by 9.6%. Diesel sales typically decrease during the monsoon months due to reduced demand in the agriculture sector and slower vehicular movements. On the other hand, demand for cooking gas (LPG) increased by 1.2% year-on-year in the first half of October.
