India-Mongolia joint military exercise 'Nomadic Elephant' to begin in Meghalaya tomorrow
The 16th edition of Joint Military Exercise 'Nomadic Elephant' between India and Mongolia will be held in Umroi, Meghalaya from July 3-16. This annual exercise aims to enhance interoperability for semi-conventional operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain. The previous edition was conducted in Mongolia in 2023. The recent 12th Joint Working Group meeting between the defense ministries of India and Mongolia reviewed bilateral defense cooperation and identified ways to enhance it, highlighting the potential for a fruitful partnership.

Pakistan handed over a list of missing defence personnel to India from the wars of 1965 and 1971 while exchanging lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen. The Foreign Office reported that Pakistan provided a list of 254 Indian prisoners in Pakistani jails, while India shared a list of 452 Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails. Both countries exchanged these lists through diplomatic channels as per the bilateral Agreement on Consular Access 2008.

"In his 35 years of meritorious service the General Officer has held various important instructional, staff and UN peace keeping appoints during his service. He has been on UN Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) as Military Observer and was also the Chief Operational Officer, Force HQ UNISFA, Sudan," it stated.

The Indian Army has introduced its first indigenous chip-based 4G mobile base station, procured from Signaltron, a Bangalore-based firm, via the government e-marketplace portal. Developed using India's own Signalchip technology, the Sahyadri LTE base stations mark a significant milestone in domestic communication technology. Signaltron's Sahyadri Network In a Box (NIB) systems, weighing just 7 kgs, offer secure wireless communication for audio, video, and data, operating seamlessly in standalone or cellular modes. With 20 units supplied initially, the army plans strategic deployments based on operational needs, enhancing flexibility and security with locally developed chip technology.

General Upendra Dwivedi assumed command of the Indian Army on Sunday, becoming the 30th Chief of the Army. Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, he is a veteran of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and previously served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff from February of the same year. General Dwivedi attended Sainik School Rewa in Madhya Pradesh before joining the National Defence Academy in January 1981. He was commissioned into the 18th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles on December 15, 1984. Throughout his career, he has commanded this battalion in both the challenging terrains of Kashmir valley and the deserts of Rajasthan.
