The court reserved its verdict after arguments were presented on the domain and scope of military courts to try civilians. The Attorney General of Pakistan argued that trials of civilians in military courts were necessary to fulfill requirements of a criminal case.

      Army major dismissed, given five years' jail for assaulting minor

      A serving Major of the Indian Army has been sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor. The court martial found him guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The incident took place in January 2022 when the officer was posted in Delhi. The officer's lawyer claims the case was prejudiced and that evidence was tampered with. The convicted officer has the option to appeal the verdict before the Armed Forces Tribunal.
