First Budget of Modi 3.0: 8 stocks which may come into limelight during the Budget speech

Till the budget comes, many would have field day, right from opinion, desire, assessment all being packed as inside news. So, at the outset, we must clarify that this is our assessment based on an assumption that there are certain sectors which will be getting more attention in the first budget of Modi 3.0. The assumption is based on two reasons. First, the government has been focussing on these sectors for some time now and will give it further push so that end results start to get reflected on ground. Second, given the fact that it makes sense to do politically correct things when the whole world is looking at you. Why not make those announcements in the budget itself, because if not in budget these would have come in any case over the next few months. These are mid and small caps stocks which are related to the rural economy which is likely to be in focus for next couple of years as policy makers once again get ready for rural push.

Stocks of the new political order: 4 stocks from irrigation pumps and allied sector

It is not that earlier farmers were not getting money under schemes initiated by the Modi government. But the first file which was signed by PM Modi after taking over office for the third time was related to releasing money to the farmers. While there is no doubt that focus on increasing farmer income and boosting agricultural productivity has been on the priority list of the government for the last ten years. But sometimes, a change in the political equation ensures that messaging and amplification of that policy changes is done more in terms of numbers and more effectively. There is a greater likelihood that more money would be pushed toward rural India and given the past track record of it is very likely that policy measures to boost productivity in agriculture will come. Which means another round of re-rating of some stocks in the chain which works in the rural economy.

Macro changes & long-term opportunities: 4 mid and small cap stocks from irrigation pumps and allied sector

While pumps and allied space might appear to be an area related only to the agriculture sector, but the fact is it is a sector which is at the intersection of agriculture, technology, and environmental management. The challenges of water scarcity, climate change, and growing global food demands. These three things are going to ensure that over the coming decades the policy makers, which in this case is the government, give direct or indirect support to this sector. Another reason why this sector will remain in the focus area, increasing farmers income has been one of the focus of the policy area of the government. Now for all those who believe that increasing farmer income can be achieved in just a few years, should remember that agriculture as an area comes with many risks, including the weather, soil of that particular area and many other factors. That is why it will happen, but over a period of time. That is why this is for long term investors.

Boosting the harvest in Bharat: 4 stocks from irrigation pumps and allied sector

When markets are correcting, one thing that gets ignored is the macro trend. Trends which will have a long-term positive impact on the bottomline of the companies of that sector. In the last few years, both due to policy push and changes in the underlying economic nature of the business, more money is being spent on increasing agricultural productivity. While there are many parts to that increase in productivity, right from fertilizer to agricultural equipment, the other element in that chain is the irrigation system or water supply system for crops. Right from solar power water pumps to micro irrigation. This sector has a number of players who are unorganized, that is probably the reason why listed players in this space were not able to capture the whole growth which has taken place in this sector. But that does not take away the fact that this is one part of the rural economy where the spending trends are clearly rising.
