Don't be afraid to be bullish, just a bit of hard work and a pinch of patience: 4 smallcap stocks for long term investors

Given how nifty and sensex are moving and market breadth is panning out, it is very likely that we are soon going to enter a phase, where the desire to own small caps would come in the category of “highest”. Another side of the story, when that happens, what will get ignored is that “risks” are also at the highest when bulls are controlling the small cap segment. For all those who still want to take exposure to them, in such times, it would be better to be cautious in selecting the stocks, better to go with buying in smaller quantities and buy stocks where the underlying business has good macro fundamentals. Refinitiv’s Stock Report Plus which lists stocks with high upside potential over the next 12 months, having an average recommendation rating of “buy” or "strong buy".

Smallcaps: Narrative might go against them, but if chosen with right filters, don't bother, 5 stocks from different sectors with long term perspective

When investing in stock markets, it’s crucial to make the distinction between high-quality and poor-quality businesses across the small, mid, and large-cap spectrums, as well as the difference between the intrinsic value of a stock and the overall value of the company. Certain niche small businesses may still generate significant returns over time if they are held long enough. On the other hand, if one's approach to small-cap investments is merely based on the absolute value of a stock with hopes of a tenfold increase, then it's a misconception. Stock market investing, whether in small, mid, or large caps, should not be driven by unrealistic expectations; otherwise, it leads to nothing but undue stress, rather than substantial returns.

    • Smallcaps: Don't be afraid of narrative against them, but surely check critical points: 5 stock from different sectors for long-term investors

Soon after election results, there was and probably still there is chatter on the street that small caps are not going to see the same kind of performance as they have seen in the last two years. Can anyone argue against a broad based statement ? Probably, No. But then expecting a small cap rally all the time is also incorrect. There are more than 2000 small caps stocks, a handful are actually worth looking at and even fewer worth having in a portfolio. If one is able to get the right of the small cap stock then the returns are extremely high, but at the same time, risk of getting it wrong and capital erosion is ever present. At times when one cannot rule our phases of volatility, for investors looking for small caps, some rules need to be followed to avoid wrong decisions of buying in haste or selling in panic.

Will finally all the hard work yield results in Modi 3.0? 7 fertilizer stocks with 4 having ‘buy’ reco and upside upside potential of up to 22%

Few months back when it was announced that the fertilizer subsidy bill was seen as lower than expected, the street reacted negatively. The assumption is that if the fertilizer subsidy is going to come down then it is bad for the sector. Now there is another way to look at it, a government which has been ensuring that agriculture gets the right amount of attention and doing the various policy pushes, then why is the overall projected subsidy bill down? Probably, it may be because the government is expecting that policy actions which it has taken over the years will yield results and some of the other non-financial efforts which it will take in the sector will help reduce the bill without having an adverse effect on any stakeholders. Now unlike other sectors like railways where putting more money or making few policy changes has helped the sector, fertilizer is a more complex sector and is bound to take more time for getting the house in order. But then who says that transition for good is painless.

Finally coming out of the woods? 6 mid and smallcap stocks from the much less talked paper industry

Remember a company called Ballarpur industry ltd or commonly known as ( BILT) from Thapar group. From being a blue chip and part of indices going through a corporate insolvency resolution process under IBC. There are some industries which at one point of time were considered to be safe haven. Best of the industrial houses used to run them and the street used to treat their stocks as blue chips. Then came a time, both due to dumping by China and other factors, that the whole sector went into dumps and just never recovered for decades; both in real business and also on the street. Now when an industry stays in deep trouble for a long time, there are some players who are able to survive. How do they do it? either by changing the way they operate in terms of management ability, by adding new products or any others. The paper industry has been facing multiple challenges, now after years of consolidation in which many players exited, there are few left and have achieved a scale. Numbers are reflecting it, when will the street start to have a look at then more kindly is the question.

Ready for re-rating in Modi 3.0? 7 fertilizer stocks with four having “buy” reco and upside potential of up to 47%

Sometimes, what might appear to be negative development might actually be a sign that the worst is behind the sector. Fertilizer as a sector, both in the business and valuation side has been under performer. The fact is that in the last nine, the government has been making changes in policies which brings this sector out of the clutches of high government subsidy and other age old issues plaguing the sector. Now unlike other sectors like railways where putting more money or making few policy changes has helped the sector, fertilizer is a more complex sector and is bound to take more time for getting the house in order. A balance has to be maintained so that while the operating matrix of the industry improves but at the same time, neither the supply should get disrupted, nor the prices of fertilizer should see a jump to the farmer. What needs to be watched is when companies show the impact of all that has been going on in the sector, sooner or a bit later. To be fair, everything has not been a smooth ride for these companies. But then who says that transition for good is painless.
