Chronology of terror strikes in Jammu region since January 1 this year

Following an intense firefight, the terrorists were neutralized, and a large cache of war-like stores was recovered.

The death toll in the twin encounters in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir climbed to eight on Sunday as security forces recovered bodies of two more terrorists, officials said. The twin encounters began on Saturday in two villages of Kulgam district."Bodies of two terrorists were recovered from Modergam encounter site while four bodies of terrorists were recovered from Chinnigam site," the officials said.
Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi takes over as Indian Army Chief; Gen Manoj Pande accorded with Guard of Honour on last day
General Upendra Dwivedi assumed command of the Indian Army on Sunday, becoming the 30th Chief of the Army. Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, he is a veteran of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and previously served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff from February of the same year. General Dwivedi attended Sainik School Rewa in Madhya Pradesh before joining the National Defence Academy in January 1981. He was commissioned into the 18th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles on December 15, 1984. Throughout his career, he has commanded this battalion in both the challenging terrains of Kashmir valley and the deserts of Rajasthan.
Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi to take over as Indian Army Chief on June 30
Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will become the 30th Chief of the Indian Army, succeeding Gen Manoj Pande, who completed his 26-month tenure. Dwivedi has served as the Northern Army Commander, gaining experience in the military standoff on the Ladakh Frontier. Born on July 1, 1964, he has served in various commands, staff, and foreign appointments.
Three militants killed, cop injured in Jammu & Kashmir's Doda
Three militants were killed and a police officer injured in an encounter in the Sinno area of Gandoh, Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The militants were foreigners involved in attacks on armed forces earlier this month. Police have recovered three rifles from them, including two M4 carbines.
Security forces foil infiltration bid along LoC in Uri, 2 militants believed dead
Two militants are believed to have been killed, but their bodies have not been recovered yet as the area is on the LoC, the officials said. The Army is maintaining a tight cordon in the area and efforts are on to recover the bodies, they added.
