The Congress and JDS have been attacking the ruling party saying it had conspired to merge Nandini with Amul and destroy the state's local brand.Surya's taunt to Gandhi was an attempt to counter the Congress campaign on Amul which had caught the BJP on the defensive. Gandhi until recently represented Kerala's Wayanad constituency in Lok Sabha.

The Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), known as Milma, has criticised state milk marketing federations that aim to sell their products outside their respective domains. The remarks came after Amul announced in an ad last week that it would sell its products online in Bengaluru, stoking fears that the milk major would take over Karmataka's own milk brand Nandini.
MILMA against Centre's move to induct private nominee in NDDB
The proposal to induct representatives from private dairies in the board of directors of NDDB will seriously harm the co-operative dairy movement in the country, said KS Mani, Chairman, KCMMF. The ministry has sought suggestions and comments on the proposed amendments, which also includes a proposal to appoint an additional director representing the private dairy industry, to be nominated for three years.
