    Will not bow down: Arvind Kejriwal reacts to CBI probe on residence renovation case

    Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal criticised the central government after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched a preliminary enquiry into alleged irregularities in the construction and renovation of his residence. Kejriwal stated that he will not bow down and accused the Prime Minister of conducting false enquiries against him.

    The CBI has initiated a preliminary inquiry into alleged misconduct by unidentified public servants in the construction of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's new official residence. The inquiry aims to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed with a formal investigation. The CBI has requested records from the Public Works Department related to approvals, endorsements, tender documents, contractor bids, building plans, and payments.

    The Delhi BJP has questioned how Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal acquired an official residence bigger than he is eligible for. Delhi's CM can only reside in a Type VII dwelling due to the city's status as a Union Territory, yet Kejriwal's home is reportedly significantly larger. The BJP accused the Public Works Department (PWD) of unauthorised renovations and said that the construction of a new bungalow cost Rs 33.2 crore, up from an initial estimate of Rs 7.62 crore.

    Last month, BJP workers staged a sit-in protest against Chief Minister Kejriwal over the residence renovation row. They protested outside his official residence and accused the Delhi government of spending a whopping amount of Rs 45 crore on the renovation of Kejriwal's residence during the peak Covid pandemic.

    Rajshekhar detailed his complaints in a report to the lieutenant governor's office, joint secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and an additional commissioner of the Delhi Police. In a statement, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government called him "a thoroughly corrupt officer" and questioned his interest in keeping some files with him despite an order being issued for withdrawal of work from him on May 13.
