    In India, young revving up demand for Lamborghini: Stephan Winkelmann

    Lamborghini is experiencing strong sales growth in India, with young, aspiring Indians driving demand for its supercars. The company's CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, noted the surprising improvement in India's infrastructure and the increasing interest from women buyers.     Priced at Rs 8.89 cr (ex-showroom), it’s the most expensive model launched in India by the Bologna-based manufacturer. It marks the entry of Lamborghini in the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle segment. The hybrid Revuelto is a much more powerful successor to the Lamborghini Aventador, which was discontinued in 2022.

    "There are more (Indian) owners than we sell cars in India. What is a bit of a challenge today for the Indian market, for sure, is the high taxation we have for our type of products, and then, the infrastructure," Stephan Winkelmann told ET.

    Lamborghini India shifts to hybrid gear

    Lamborghini India is investing €1.8bn to ensure its entire range is hybridised by 2024. The company's last internal combustion model was the recently launched Urus S. Lamborghini India's fastest growing market for the past two years has been the luxury supercar Urus, a crossover SUV that has proved popular among first-time buyers both in India and globally.

    Lamborghini India is hoping for double-digit growth in the supercar segment in 2023 thanks to better infrastructure, increasing ultra-high net worth individuals, and positive economic forecasts. Lamborghini India began operations in 2007, and last year it sold 92 units, seeing a growth of 33 percent over 2021. The company launched Urus S, the second model in the Urus SUV lineup, with a cost of INR 4.18 crore.
