    Delhi rains: LG holds emergency meeting, officials' leave cancelled

    Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena conducted an emergency meeting on Friday to address the severe waterlogging in Delhi following prolonged rainfall. He directed officials to establish an emergency control room and deploy static pumps to manage the waterlogging. Saxena instructed that all senior officers on leave return to duty and that no leave be sanctioned for the next two months. He noted the city's lack of preparedness, citing incomplete drain de-silting and a pending Flood Control Order, and urged immediate action.

    Delhi mayoral polls remain in limbo despite CM Kejriwal out on bail

    The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) postponed the mayoral polls in April citing non-appointment of presiding officer by the LG. However, the LG office has denied receiving any new requests from the Chief Minister's office. The Supreme Court had granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal on May 10 in the Excise Policy case.

    The AAP accused the BJP of "conspiring" with the Lt Governor VK Saxena to "cancel" the mayoral elections fearing the win of the AAP candidate in the polls. The AAP alleged that the BJP wanted to stop a person from the Dalit community from becoming the Mayor of Delhi.

    Asked whether the party will approach court in the matter, he responded, "We are discussing with lawyers on the matter and will see what happens. We have seen duch difficulties earlier also but we will ensure that mayor is elected." AAP MLA Vishesh Ravi alleged that BJP was stopping a person from Dalit community from becoming the mayor.

    Delhi government extends existing excise policy

    The Delhi government has extended its excise duty-based policy for the financial year 2024-25, allowing wholesale licenses under the same terms as the previous year. The policy, in effect since October 2023, will continue for the coming year, with licenses renewable under existing terms. This policy, introduced in 2022, shifted retail liquor business from private firms to Delhi government enterprises. A new excise policy is in the works but has not yet been finalized or implemented.
