    Five newly-elected MLAs take oath in Gujarat

    Four former Congress legislators and an independent candidate, who won as BJP candidates in the recent bypolls in Gujarat, took oath in Gandhinagar. The BJP retained power in the December 2022 assembly elections, winning 156 out of 182 seats. The party's strength now stands at 161 with the addition of five more MLAs. The Congress turncoat list includes prominent leaders like Arjun Modhvadia, CJ Chavda, Arvind Ladani, and Chirag Patel. The resignations of these leaders came ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as the BJP strategically inducted them to strengthen its position. Sources suggest that Modhvadia and CJ Chavda may soon be included in the state cabinet as the chief minister expands the cabinet. The Gujarat BJP unit is also set for a structural overhaul after state party president CR Patil joined the Union Cabinet.

    According to a press release issued by the organising chairperson, IIT Madras, out of the total qualified candidates, 7964 are female and 40284 are male. Total number of qualified general candidates is 14319 and that of qualified general (economically weaker sections) candidates is 5508. A total of 9499 OBC-NCL have qualified, as have 13835 SC candidates and 5087 ST candidates.

    In the Lok Sabha election 2024, BJP's candidate Shankar Lalwani won the Indore seat in Madhya Pradesh with a record margin. The Congress nominee, Akshay Kanti Bam, withdrew at the last minute, leading to Lalwani's uncontested victory. NOTA secured the second position with a significant number of votes.

    67 candidates share top rank in NEET-UG, maximum from Rajasthan

    67 candidates, including 14 girls, secured top rank in NEET-UG conducted by NTA. Majority from Rajasthan. Passing percentage 56.4%. Among those who have qualified the country's biggest entrance exam for admission to MBBS and BDS courses at the undergraduate level, 5,47,036 are male, 7,69,222 are female and 10 are transgender persons, the NTA said.
