    Experts in DNA analysis, forensic anthropology, and cadaver dog handling, among others, have been called to help recover and identify the remains of over 100 people who died in a Hawaii town last week. The group includes veterans of September 11 services and the US state of California's deadliest wildfire last year. ANDE, a company that specialises in rapid DNA technology, and Colorado parks staff are also among those helping. As the number of victims continues to rise, with two identified so far, authorities say the full toll may not be known for weeks or months.

    The death toll from Hawaii's deadliest wildfire in more than a century reached 93 with many still unaccounted for, leading to criticism of the government's inaction. Recovery crews are using cadaver dogs to comb through burnt-out vehicles and homes on the island of Maui. While official estimates say more than 2,200 buildings were damaged or destroyed, and $5.5bn worth of damage was caused, authorities have been criticised for not activating the alert system.
