The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall citing potential explosions of the PSDI-5 inflators, which could release sharp metal fragments and cause injury or death to occupants. This recall is part of the broader Takata airbag crisis, linked to more than 30 deaths globally and hundreds of injuries since 2009.
