High charges on NACH, ECS debit bounce: Even 17% return on mutual fund SIP may not be enough to recover penalties

Mutual fund SIP has become a popular tool for small retail investors to do small regular savings and get the benefit of higher returns from equity market. This facility empowers these small retail investors in a big way. However, the banking facility of ECS/NACH debit which allows automatic monthly deduction can turn this into a nightmare with very high bounce charges especially for small investors if they miss even one investment payment.

Reserve Bank of India has enabled payments through National Automated Clearing House (NACH) in the Retail Direct Website. Now an investor can place bids for various government bonds, treasury bills, state development loans and sovereign gold bonds (SGBs) using NACH facility on RBI Retail Direct Website. Read below to know how does it work.

The Central government has extended the deadline for enabling payment of wages for MGNREGA workers through the Aadhaar-based payment system (ABPS) till December 31. It has made it clear to all the states that beneficiaries who come for work should be requested to provide an Aadhaar number, but will not be refused work on this basis.

Up to 90 per cent MGNREGS workers expected to be ABPS eligible by June-end: Officials

The ministry has asserted that workers will not be refused work if they do not have an Aadhaar number. So far, around 74.9 per cent active workers have been marked eligible for the payment system, according to data on the ministry's website. The rural development ministry has asked states to organise camps and follow-up with beneficiaries to achieve 100 per cent coverage under ABPS. It has also clarified that beneficiaries should be requested to provide their Aadhaar number, but should not be refused work if they do not have one.

Centre asks states to link Aadhaar with bank accounts of workers by May end, identify 'laggard areas'
