United World Wrestling (UWW) suspended Bajrang Punia till the end of the year for refusing National Anti Doping Agency's (NADA's) dope test. The wrestler contested whereabouts failure notice from NADA and denied refusal to test. Mission Olympic Cell had approved training funds for Punia despite NADA's actions. Bajrang cancelled training plans and filed a reply to NADA.
Sports ministry revokes PCI's suspension with immediate effect
The Sports Ministry revoked the suspension on the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) after initiating elections. Devendra Jhajharia is set to be elected President. The PCI proposed March 9 for elections due to the Para Shooting World Cup. The IPC continues to support and recognize the PCI.
Centre revises guidelines on recruitment, promotion of sports persons
The Indian government has revised its guidelines on sports recruitment and promotion to include events of national importance and provide greater incentives to sports persons performing well. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued consolidated instructions on recruitment and promotion in October 2013. National championships, tournaments, national games, Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India Winter Games, and Khelo India Para Games are recognized as events of national importance.
