    Karnataka: Anganwadis, Schools and pre-university colleges in Dakshina Kannada closed today due to heavy rain and red alert

    Dakshina Kannada district has closed Anganwadis, schools, and pre-university colleges on July 6 due to heavy rainfall, following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan's order also advises fishermen to avoid the sea and cautions citizens and tourists to steer clear of low-lying areas, riverbanks, and seashores for safety. The IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka on July 5-6 and South Interior Karnataka on July 6, with continued rainfall expected through July 9.

    SpiceJet and IndiGo have issued flight advisories for passengers traveling through Delhi and Dharamsala, citing expected delays due to bad weather. Both airlines urged travelers to check their flight status. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, predicting heavy rainfall until July 1, with broader forecasts of significant rainfall across North India, including Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. The IMD also anticipates increased monsoon activity, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in various regions from June 27-30. Passengers are advised to monitor weather updates and flight information.

    Heatwave to continue over many parts of North India today, gradually abate

    The IMD reported that heatwave conditions were prevalent in most parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as in some areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and north Madhya Pradesh. Isolated pockets in northeast Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, northwest Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jammu division also experienced heatwave conditions.

    Intense heat leads to rise in tomato prices

    Tomato prices have doubled in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala due to intense heat waves, reaching ₹40-50 per kg. Prices in North India remain stable. The situation may get complex in July with expected supply shortages.

He defended his government's actions and accused the BJP of targeting Congress leaders. Siddaramaiah also criticised BJP's tactics and expressed skepticism about their expansion in South India. He called for a fair probe into the NEET exam issue and highlighted the need for conducting Zilla and Taluk Panchayat polls promptly.
