    The Strategic Studies Institute of the US Army War College published an in-depth report examining PLA activity along the mountainous border in Aksai Chin opposite India in 2020-21. It considered how the PLA rapidly moved troops into the region as violence flared between Chinese and Indian troops in Galwan Valley on 15-16 June 2020. However, Blasko, a former US defence attache in Beijing and Hong Kong, also provided a useful assessment of current and future conditions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

    The Chinese military has stated that the situation along the India-China border is "generally stable" and that both sides are maintaining "effective" communication to resolve the military standoff in eastern Ladakh. This comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent interview with Newsweek magazine, where he expressed hope for positive engagement to restore peace and tranquility at the borders. Both countries have agreed to reach a mutually acceptable solution soon. The eastern Ladakh standoff, which began in May 2020, has resulted in a freeze of bilateral ties except for trade, despite 21 rounds of corps commanders-level talks.

    The relations between India and China have been frozen except for trade ties ever since the eastern Ladakh border standoff erupted on May 5, 2020, following a violent clash in the Pangong Tso (lake) area. The two sides have so far held 21 rounds of corps commander-level talks to resolve the standoff.

    "China has noted the remarks by the prime minister," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing here when asked for her reaction to Modi's statement. "We believe that sound and stable China, India relations serve the common interests of both sides and are conducive to peace and development of the region and beyond," she said.

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reassured the public that India's borders are completely secure during a fireside chat at the Times Now Summit. He defended the Agniveer scheme, emphasizing the importance of a young profile in the armed forces. Singh also discussed the ongoing India-China border issue and highlighted the government's commitment to national security.
