    Over 14 lakh visa applications submitted monthly in 2023: EAM Jaishankar on Passport Seva Divas

    External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the Ministry's accomplishment of providing 1.65 crore passport-related services to Indian citizens in 2023 and processing over 14 lakh visa applications monthly during the 12th Passport Seva Divas.

    India is set to launch the Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0, which will include new and upgraded e-passports to enable enhanced passport services to citizens, using a digital eco-system. The initiative is in line with the Indian Prime Minister’s vision of enhancing the 'Ease of Living' for citizens. The PSP has significantly contributed to the Indian government's goal of a "Digital India" with milestones such as the mPassport Seva mobile app, mPassport Police app, integration of PSP with DigiLocker, and the 'apply from anywhere' scheme.

    Speaking at the seventh Passport Seva Divas, Jaishankar said the ministry has initiated discussions with the ‘India Security Press’ regarding the project for issuing chip-enabled e-passports to the citizens.

    Soon, Indians can have chip-based e-passport

    Prime Minister announced that the government is working to simplify the process of issuing visas to PIO (Person of Indian Origin) and OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cards.
