David Hockney's rare 'California' pool painting, unseen for 40 years, heads to Christie's auction
An early work by renowned British artist David Hockney, titled "California," is set to go up for auction at Christie's "20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale" on March 7. Painted in 1965, the artwork features Hockney's iconic pool motif and depicts two naked figures in an outdoor swimming pool. The painting, not publicly displayed since 1979, is estimated to fetch around $20 million.
