SC asks Centre to consider enhancing compensation in hit-and-run accidents
The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to consider enhancing compensation amounts in hit-and-run accidents. The Motor Vehicles (MV) Act provides a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for death and Rs 50,000 for grievous injury, but the court wants the government to review and possibly increase these amounts annually. The court also instructed the police to inform the victims' families about the compensation scheme.
