For NRI quota in government medical colleges, Karnataka govt wants 500 additional MBBS seats
The Karnataka government has urged the Centre to approve extra MBBS seats in autonomous government medical colleges under the Department of Medical Education starting from the academic year 2025-26. Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil stated that he has formally requested the Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC) to authorize a 15% NRI quota by creating 508 additional supernumerary MBBS seats across 22 government medical colleges in the state.
DU opens CSAS portal for undergraduate admissions
Delhi University launched the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for undergraduate admissions for the academic year 2024-25, introducing supernumerary seats for single-child girl students in every course. The CSAS website is now open for student registration, with admissions based on CUET scores and class 12 marks. Admissions are also available for the School of Open Learning and Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board.
IIT Madras becomes first IIT to introduce sports quota; 2 seats to be created in each UG course
IIT Madras becomes the first IIT to introduce a sports quota for undergraduate admissions. Two supernumerary seats will be created in each course from 2024-25. The quota aims to reward and encourage students who excel in sports. Eligibility requires a position in the JEE (Advanced) rank list and at least one medal in a national or international sports competition. A separate Sports Rank List will be prepared based on performance in specific sports. Different weightage will be given to different games in the quota.
DU admissions: 85,853 candidates allotted seats in UG courses in first round
More than 85,000 candidates have been allotted seats in under-graduate courses in Delhi University (DU) colleges in the first round of seat allocation under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS)- UG-2023. Officials said that out of 2,02,416 eligible candidates considered for seat allocation, 7,042 candidates got their first preference.
JNU to issue on Aug 17 merit lists for PG programmes admission
Jawaharlal Nehru University will issue the first merit list for admission to postgraduate programmes for the academic year 2023-24 on August 17. The application process will conclude on August 10, and after that, the pre-enrolment registration and payment of fees will be conducted from August 18 to August 21.
DU begins registration for PG courses, CSAS portal to close on August 10
Delhi University commenced the registration for admission into its postgraduate courses with the opening of the CSAS (PG) portal on Thursday and released the schedule for CSAS allocation, an official said. The classes for postgraduate courses will begin on September 1 and the admissions into the programmes will be through CSAS (PG) 2023.

DU rejigs UG admission norms for ECA, sports supernumerary seats
Delhi University has changed the rules for admission through extracurricular activities (ECA) and sports quotas. The two categories will now be offered 2.5% supernumerary seats each, while the number of seats will be calculated programme-wise rather than college-wise. Colleges will no longer have sole discretion in deciding the amount of weightage they wish to give ECA or sports.

Earlier, students belonging to these categories had to go through the preliminary entrance exam to qualify for the Advanced exam for the IITs. But now they have been included in the category of foreign nationals and don't need to go through the preliminary exam.

In the third round of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS), admissions are being done to all supernumerary quotas, including ECA, sports, CW and Kashmiri migrants along with regular admissions. Colleges will verify and approve the online applications from November 14 to 16. The last date for online payment of admission fees is November 17.
